Glossybox finally arrived last week! YAY!
I subscribed to this beauty box service ages ago, paying for an entire year up front. I noticed that as the year went on, the items that came in my boxes seemed to get better and better- higher quality samples in very wearable shades- stuff I would actually use. I allowed my subscription to lapse once my year was up and boy, do I regret that. Once I re-subscribed, the quality of the products and the wearability of the shades I received fell back down again.
The advice being given in this blog post is : Glossybox is only worth it if you plan on sticking with it- not if you just want a onetime deal! If you do stick with it, you won’t regret it. This is one of my favorite beauty box services, but they show the most appreciation for their most loyal subscribers….which, when I stop and think about it, makes sense.
In September, the good people at Glossybox have paired up with the good people at Harper’s Bazaar to ship out some of their favorite products.
Onward, to the loot-
Bulgari Eau Parfumee Hair Conditioner (full size) : I have had numerous bad experiences with luxury brands and their shampoos and conditioners- the most recent being a Givenchy shampoo that smelled so terrible I had to re-wash my hair. Bvlgari, of course, is known for their jewelry, fragrances and accessories. The scent of this conditioner in the bottle is ok- it’s clean and light, mainly comprised of green tea and citrus with a bit of floral in there. The consistency though is extremely thin, more like a detangler than a conditioner. We will see how this stuff works on my thick, long hair. The “full size” is a ridiculous 6.8 ounces and the price is equally as ridiculous. ($45.00, us.bulgari.com)
Benefit they’re real! beyond mascara (0.1 oz. sample) : Alright already, I’ll try it. Almost every beauty site out there has a couple million reviews about how great this lengthening and volumizing mascara is. The formula is on the thinner side and the brush is a plastic little fatty with stubby. tough bristles, a la Chanel. I LOVE these types of brushes and I’m looking forward to trying this out! (full size 0.3 oz, $23.00 http://www.benefitcosmetics.com)
Essie Nail Lacquer in “She’s Pampered” (full size) : You cannot go wrong with Essie polish. It is in my top 3 favorite brands, but I do find that from shade to shade, the consistency of Essie’s polishes change. Their shades that are on the thinner, more liquidy side tend to last much longer on my nails than those that are thicker- and this one is thin, so hooray for that. Loving the vibrant, 90’s true red shade too. ( $8.50 http://www.essie.com)
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Matte in “Black Dahlia” (full size) : OC cosmetics Lip Tar is quite a unique product. While being super duper pigmented and long lasting, the shade seems to change while on your lips. When I saw it in the tube, it looked like a black brown, but actually turned out to be a deep, very vampy and very wearable red- a good choice from Glossybox with Halloween just around the corner! ($18.00 http://www.occmakeup.com)
Vichy Laboratoires Liftactiv Night Anti-Wrinkle and Firming Cream (.51 oz. sample) : This is the 3rd or 4th product I’ve received by Vichy in subscription boxes, and I have yet to try the brand. This cream seems perfect for me though- the formula is dense and unscented, firming while non-drying and best for normal and combination skin. Definitely looking forward to using this. (full size, 1.7 oz $50.00 http://www.vichyusa.com)
Have you tried any of these products? What do you think??
